Burn Injury at Work Compensation Claims

Law Society Accredited Personal Injury Solicitors

If you have sustained a burn injury in an accident at work that wasn’t your fault you may be eligible to claim compensation.

Our personal injury specialists can let you know if you have a viable compensation claim and we have an excellent track record of getting our clients the maximum award available.

Burn injuries in the workplace are commonly caused by intense heat from machinery or tools, steam, electricity, or chemicals. They can be extremely painful, and their impact can extend to your financial and psychological welfare.

If your injuries prevent you from working you may incur a loss of income. Travel expenses and other costs incurred during your rehabilitation can pile even more financial pressure on you. It takes time to recover from your burn injury and you shouldn’t have the extra burden of struggling financially.

Your employer has a duty of care to ensure you are protected while at work and if they fall short of this legal obligation you may be able to claim compensation if you suffer a burn injury while carrying out your job.

Our burn injury at work solicitors are experienced in helping workers like you claim compensation for losses incurred, private medical treatment, and any other out-of-pocket expenses so you can get your life back on track.

You don’t have to pursue compensation on your own. We offer specialist legal advice and will be by your side to ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible.

Our No Win No Fee Solicitors offer our service on a No Win No Fee basis, meaning no upfront legal fees or financial risk for you if your claim is unsuccessful.

Get in touch with our workplace injury lawyers today to find out how we can help you secure the maximum settlement for your burn injury at work claim.

About burn injury accident claims

A burn is a challenging injury to suffer from, causing not only pain but potentially also leaving disfiguring scars and emotional trauma.

Minor burns or scalds will heal within a matter of months, although there may be some residual skin sensitivity in that area. More serious burns such as chemical burns can be life-changing, leaving permanent visible scarring which can shatter a person’s confidence.

For more severe injuries, cosmetic surgery may even be required.

According to data from the Labour Force Survey, 23,000 UK workers sustained a non-fatal burn injury at work during the three years studied, with mishandling of chemicals as a leading cause.

Accidents leading to burn injuries can occur in environments where employees regularly handle hot substances or are in close proximity to machinery that heats up. This could be factories or industrial kitchens. Many workplaces regularly handle dangerous chemicals which can inflict serious burns.

If you’ve suffered a burn injury at work, we understand how distressing this can be, especially if you need access to treatment or special equipment to support your daily life.

Compensation is designed to redress the damages. No amount of money can make up for the pain or scarring left from the injury, but it can help you move forward and live well.

A burn injury at work compensation award is there to cover:

  • Immediate or long-term private medical care
  • Rehabilitation
  • Counselling
  • Special equipment or modifications to your home
  • Loss of income
  • Additional expenses
  • Cosmetic surgery such as skin grafts to repair damaged tissue

We understand that your compensation claim is vital for your financial security, which is why you get access to our specialist lawyers who have extensive experience in achieving the highest possible compensation award for our clients.

Your rights at work

As outlined in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, your employer is legally responsible for protecting you against accidents or injury at work.

The legislation is clear about your employer's legal responsibilities to provide:

  • A safe working environment
  • Safe equipment
  • A thorough risk assessment
  • Adequate training and supervision especially in handling hazardous substances or equipment
  • Suitable personal protective clothing
  • Relevant information about potential hazards including chemical substances, equipment, or activity.

If you’ve suffered a burn injury at work that was due to your employer’s negligence, then you may be entitled to receive compensation.

Talk to our specialist personal injury at work lawyers today. We will help by identifying whether your employer is at fault for a burn injury you suffered while carrying out your job, and build a robust case against them if they are found to be in breach of the law.

Claiming against your employer can be a daunting prospect, but the law is on your side. You have the right to claim compensation if you were injured at work and it is illegal for your boss to make you redundant or create a hostile environment that makes you want to leave your job.

A burn is an unpleasant injury which can be extremely painful. Minor burns or scalds may heal within a few months but other burns can leave permanent scars which affect your life. You may feel disfigured which can seriously knock your confidence.

Medium and long-term consequences could be:

  • Minor redness, blistering, and discomfort
  • Damage to muscle bone or nerves
  • Infection which can lead to further complications
  • Permanent scars requiring reconstruction surgery or skin grafts
  • Psychological damage
  • Impaired vision, blindness

You may have to take time off work, which can affect your income. If a burns injury at work was the result of negligence and has significantly impacted your life, you may be able to claim compensation.

The purpose of compensation is to provide you with the financial means to take care of your needs while you recover and to cover any losses caused by the accident.

This means that you can get access to the medical care you need and protect yourself financially - now and in the future.

The amount you receive depends on the severity of the injury, your financial losses, and the extent of the lifestyle changes you’re forced to make.

Check out our skin injury compensation calculator to see what the value of your claim could be.

There are four main types of burns:

Superficial epidermal

A superficial epidermal burn affects the outer skin layer and is the least serious type of burn. The skin appears red and swollen but it is not blistered. Although it hurts there is usually no lasting damage.

Superficial dermal

A superficial dermal burn is slightly more serious. The skin is pink and painful, often with blistering around the affected area.

Deep dermal

A deep dermal, or partial thickness burn is when the epidermis and dermis are damaged. The skin usually looks red and blotchy. Some people find their skin becomes dry, while others it becomes moist. Most people suffering from this type of burn experience some swelling and blistering.

Full thickness

Full thickness burns are the most serious and will take longer to heal perhaps requiring skin grafts. The skin may appear pale white or black and charred. You may not experience any pain. For burns, the level of pain is not necessarily related to the seriousness.

Chemicals

Chemical burns are caused by exposure to corrosive substances such as acids, solvents, and bases. Workers may come into contact with or mishandle harmful chemicals due to insufficient personal protective equipment (PPE) or inadequate training.

Electricity

Electrical burns are caused by contact with faulty equipment or electrified water. Electrical equipment could be unsafe due to negligence in failing to test the equipment properly.

Extreme heat

Burns can be sustained due to exposure to extreme heat from hot pipes, engines, and heated tools. Contact with hot water and steam can cause scalds.
