There are buses from Liscard to Liverpool, via the Kingsway Tunnel, every 10 mins and there are several local bus services which connect the various Wallasey districts and offer access to nearby towns such as Birkenhead, Leasowe and Moreton

Shopping and eating

The Wallasey district of Liscard boasts the best shopping in the area, in the form of the Cherry Tree Precinct and its extensive outdoor shopping parade. The Cherry Tree Precinct is in line for an impressive makeover as part Wirral Council’s 20-year investment plan for the area, bringing new retail outlets, new food, and drink venues, as well as new residential apartments.

There are plenty of places to eat out, not surprisingly there is a good selection of seafood restaurants but there is something to suit everybody's taste and budget, from traditional British food, to Greek, Indian and Chinese.

History

With a rich history dating back to the 16th century, Wallasey used to be an island separated from the rest of the Wirral Peninsula  by Wallasey Creek until it was drained in the 1820’s during the development of the Birkenhead Dock System.

The New Brighton area, named as such because it was said to rival the already extremely popular Regency resort of Brighton on the south coast, became a popular tourist resort for the people of Liverpool and Lancashire in the 19th century.

Development as a residential and industrial location accelerated in the 19th and 20th century as the docks and the rail links to Liverpool brought significant wealth and opportunity to the area

Whilst the docks have closed and the employment landscape has evolved to more modern industries, Wallasey remains a popular and vibrant area on the Wirral.

Nature and the Great Outdoors

There are plenty of fantastic coastal walks in the area and great views across the Mersey to Liverpool. The surrounding sand dunes are an ideal location for picnics and offer protection from the bracing sea breezes.

For those who love wildlife, there’s Bidston Nature Reserve under 15 mins away and another 12 National Trust sites or Nature Reserves dotted across the Wirral Peninsula.
