Frodsham was once something of a hidden gem in the Cheshire property scene, often overlooked by people drawn to nearby Chester or Liverpool.
Not any longer.
Frodsham is now very much on the map, and not only due to famous names like Gary Barlow and Daniel Craig having grown up there.
There are many reasons why Frodsham has become one of the most vibrant and exciting places to live in the North West – read more about some of them below.
According to Zoopla estimates, properties in Frodsham sold for an average of £264,628 in July 2020.
A range of property types are available, with detached homes selling for an average of £314,587, semi-detached houses commanding an average of £232,235, terraced properties fetching £169,402 and flats selling for an average of £146,015.
There are four Outstanding primary schools within three miles of the centre of Frodsham, with an additional 20 primary schools in the area rated as Good. The local high school, also rated Good by Ofsted, comfortably outperforms both national and Local Authority averages on key performance measures.
Frodsham is conveniently located between Manchester and Liverpool and is under 40 minutes by car from the centre of both cities, and about 25 minutes by car from both international airports. The nearby M56 offers easy access around the North West and the local train station offers services to Liverpool, Chester, Manchester, Manchester Airport and into Wales.
Frodsham is steeped in history. Many buildings in the town can trace their plots of land to the 13th and 14th centuries, with the numerous blue plaques making a fascinating historical tour. After enjoying the sights of the trail, you can then enjoy a drink in the Bear’s Paw, a traditional pub on Main Street, dating from 1632.
In relation to shopping, Frodsham has everything you need, happily delivered mainly through independent shops and boutiques. Whether you need clothes, household goods, flowers, gifts or high-quality local food and fresh produce, you will be well catered for. But it is the market that is the real shopping highlight. Held every Thursday since 1661 on Main Street, it brings traffic to a halt as shoppers browse the many stalls which line the roadside.
There is a wide and hugely tempting selection of dining options in Frodsham. Next Door, owned by the daughter of the local butcher, serves modern British dishes using locally sourced produce; Brew and Tucker offers locals the opportunity to experience the attention to detail and quality of the best Australian coffee shops; and live music lovers flock to Kash-22 for great food, an excellent range of craft beers and, of course, the music. If you are in the mood for cake, the Devonshire Bakery has five generations of experience producing fabulous sweet treats, as well as some wonderful savoury items, available to take away or to eat in at the café.
The main street in Frodsham is unique, in that it marks both the start and end of the Sandstone Trail, allowing immediate access to one of the best walks in Cheshire. Stretching over 11 miles along the dramatic sandstone ridge, the trail offers some of the most dramatic views over the county. In addition to the famous Sandstone Trail, the Frodsham Hill walk is also popular with locals and visitors.
Manley Mere is one of the top family days out in the region, offering beautiful and tranquil walks and a wide range of water sports activities such as SUP, windsurfing and open-water swimming. Castle Park is also a popular place for families, as well as those interested in the arts. The Castle Park Arts Centre has four galleries, craft spaces, workshops and a coffee shop, all set in beautiful parkland and supporting a range of local artists.
