Spinal Injury Solicitors

Law Society Accredited - Practice Management Standard
Law Society Accredited Personal Injury Solicitors

Our Spinal Injury Solicitors provide specialist legal support to people and families affected by serious spinal injuries. At PSR Solicitors, our experienced team offers clear advice, practical guidance and personal support throughout the compensation claim process.

If you have suffered a spinal cord injury in an accident that was not your fault, our Spinal Injury Solicitors can assess whether you may be entitled to claim compensation. We offer free initial advice and take the time to understand what happened, how the injury has affected your life and what support you may need now and in the future.

Whether you were injured in a road traffic collision, a fall from height, an accident at work or another serious incident, the consequences can be overwhelming.

The consequences may include pain, reduced mobility, uncertainty about recovery, loss of income and concerns about how you and your family will manage. Our Spinal Injury Solicitors will explain your legal options clearly, keep you informed and help you understand what to expect at every stage.

A spinal cord injury can affect emotional and psychological wellbeing as well as physical health. More serious injuries may change a person’s independence, employment, relationships and daily routine. We understand that a compensation claim may be only one part of the support you require, so we consider your immediate needs alongside the long-term effects of your injury.

Our Spinal Injury Solicitors can pursue compensation for your injuries and financial losses while seeking access to appropriate rehabilitation, private medical treatment, counselling, specialist equipment and home adaptations where these can be included within your claim. We can also consider whether interim payments may be available to reduce financial pressure before your case concludes.

Established in 2009, PSR Solicitors is accredited by the Law Society for personal injury services and holds the Lexcel Practice Management Standard. These accreditations reflect our commitment to high standards of legal practice and client care.

With offices across North Wales, Cheshire and the North West, our Spinal Injury Solicitors combine specialist legal experience with a personal and approachable service. You will have direct contact with a qualified solicitor who will listen to your concerns, answer your questions and work to secure the full and fair compensation supported by the evidence. About Spinal Injury Compensation Claims

Spinal injuries are among the most serious and life-changing cases we handle at PSR Solicitors. Damage to the spinal, the delicate bundle of nerves running through the spinal column, can have devastating consequences. Spinal injuries affect the central nervous system, leading to significant, often permanent, medical and personal challenges.

These injuries can result in partial or complete paralysis, loss of sensation, and severe mobility restrictions. Simple daily tasks that many take for granted, such as brushing teeth, getting dressed, or even sitting up, can become impossible. In the most severe cases, full-time care may be required, and the injured person may no longer be able to work or live independently.

For the purposes of making a compensation claim, it must be proven that the spinal injury was caused by someone else’s negligence or deliberate actions, such as a criminal assault. This is where Spine Injury Claims can provide vital financial support to help rebuild lives after such a devastating event. Compensation plays a crucial role in helping individuals secure the care and resources they need to move forward. At PSR Solicitors, we have a strong track record of success in securing the maximum possible settlements, ensuring our clients have the financial security and medical support necessary for their recovery.

Gaining the full amount of compensation is essential for:

  • Securing the best medical care including private consultations and treatments.
  • Accessing leading rehabilitation therapies.
  • Covering private counselling and therapy sessions to help you process the emotional and mental load of your accident and come to terms with what has happened to you.
  • Purchasing the best specialist equipment available that can help you adapt to life with your injuries.
  • Any adaptations to your home that can help you live as independently as possible.
  • Protecting you against loss of earnings.
  • Covering all the expenses you will incur as a result of your injuries such as travel to and from hospital appointments.

Our Spinal Injury Solicitors understand the life-changing impact of these injuries and are dedicated to securing comprehensive Spine Injury Claims that address both immediate and long-term needs. If you or a loved one has suffered a serious spinal injury, contact PSR Solicitors today for expert legal advice and dedicated support throughout your claim.

About Spinal Injury and Spinal Cord Injuries

Spinal injuries affect the nerves that carry messages from the brain to the rest of the body. When these nerves are damaged, the signals can be disrupted or blocked entirely, leading to a loss of movement, sensation, and control in the limbs, chest, or stomach muscles. The severity of these injuries can vary, but in many cases, they are life-changing and require urgent medical intervention. Immediate specialist care and expert rehabilitation are essential to give you the best possible chance of recovery and adaptation to your new circumstances.

There are many ways a spinal injury can occur, often as a result of sudden trauma or a severe impact. Some of the most common causes include:

  • Road traffic accidents
  • Workplace accidents
  • Slips, trips, and falls
  • Defective machinery
  • Physical assaults
  • Sports injuries
  • Accidents abroad

The consequences of a spinal injury depend on the severity of the damage. Some individuals may experience temporary mobility issues, while others may face permanent paralysis or a significant reduction in quality of life. Regardless of the severity, the impact can be profound, affecting not only physical health but also emotional well-being and financial security.

If your spinal injury was caused by someone else’s negligence, you may be entitled to Spinal Injury Compensation. This could be due to a failure to follow health and safety protocols at work, negligence on the road, or even a defective product. To secure successful Spine Injury Claims, it is essential to establish who is liable and demonstrate that their actions, or failure to act, directly caused your injury.

At PSR Solicitors, our expert team has the knowledge and experience to represent clients in complex Spine Injury Claims, ensuring that those affected receive the compensation and support they deserve. If you or a loved one has suffered a spinal injury due to negligence, contact our dedicated Spinal Injury Solicitors today to discuss your options.

How a spinal injury claim can support rehabilitation

Rehabilitation should be considered at an early stage of a serious injury claim rather than being left until a final settlement is reached.

The Personal Injury Pre-Action Protocol requires parties to consider whether an injured person has an immediate need for medical treatment or other early rehabilitation. This reflects the principles of the Rehabilitation Code, which encourages claimants’ representatives and compensators to work constructively to identify appropriate rehabilitation wherever possible.

Where suitable, we may seek an independent assessment of your rehabilitation needs. Depending on the nature of your injury, recommendations could include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychological treatment, pain management, case management or an assessment of your care and accommodation requirements.

The recommendations must be based on your individual circumstances. Our role is to help ensure that proposed treatment and rehabilitation are clinically appropriate and that their cost is addressed with the responsible insurer where liability and funding permit.

We can also consider whether an interim payment should be requested before the claim concludes. An interim payment is an advance payment of compensation and may help with urgent treatment, equipment, care, accommodation or loss of income. Whether one can be obtained will depend on the legal and evidential position in your case.

Your questions answered

If you have suffered a spinal injury that wasn’t your fault, you may be eligible to make Spine Injury Claims to get the compensation and support you need.

Starting your claim begins with a free consultation where one of our specialist Spinal Injury Solicitors will assess your case, discuss the circumstances of your injury, and advise you on the best course of action. We understand that spinal injuries can be complex, and gathering strong evidence is essential in building successful Spine Injury Claims. The type of evidence required may include:

  • Medical records and documents detailing your diagnosis and any treatment you have received
  • Financial records showing any loss of income or additional expenses caused by your injury
  • Witness statements from individuals who were present at the time of the accident
  • CCTV footage or mobile phone recordings that provide visual evidence of the incident
  • Police or Health and Safety Executive (HSE) reports, especially for workplace accidents or road traffic collisions

At PSR Solicitors, we specialise in serious Spine Injury Claims and work tirelessly to hold those responsible accountable. If you believe that your spinal injury was caused by someone else’s negligence, contact our expert team of Spinal Injury Solicitors today for a free, no-obligation consultation to discuss your legal options.

In most cases, there is a three-year time limit for serious injury claims, starting from the date of the accident or the date you became aware that your injury was linked to someone else’s negligence. This means that court proceedings must be issued within three years, or you risk losing your right to claim compensation.

There are some exceptions to this rule. If the injured person is under 18, the time limit does not begin until their 18th birthday, meaning they have until the age of 21 to start a claim. If the injured person lacks mental capacity, there may be no time limit at all, allowing a family member or legal representative to pursue Spine Injury Claims on their behalf.

It is always best to act quickly when pursuing Spine Injury Claims, as gathering evidence becomes more difficult as time passes. Medical records, witness statements, and CCTV footage are all crucial in proving liability, and delaying the process can make it harder to secure the strongest possible case.

If you believe you may be entitled to compensation, our expert Spinal Injury Solicitors are ready to discuss your case whenever you feel ready. Contact us today for clear legal guidance and dedicated support throughout the Spine Injury Claims process.

When calculating compensation, our Spinal Injury Solicitors consider the full extent of how your injury has affected your life, both financially and personally. Compensation is awarded for the pain, suffering, and loss of quality of life caused by your injuries. However, it is also essential to ensure that all financial losses are accurately calculated and projected into the future to provide long-term financial security. Spinal Injury Compensation can cover:

  • Loss of earnings, including any impact on your future income and pension if you are unable to continue working
  • Costs of rehabilitation and ongoing medical treatment, such as physiotherapy, specialist consultations, and private healthcare
  • Home adaptations or relocation costs if your current home is no longer suitable due to your injuries
  • Care and assistance, whether from professional carers or compensation for the time family and friends spend providing essential support
  • Specialist equipment and mobility aids to help you maintain independence, including wheelchairs, home accessibility modifications, and assistive technology

At PSR Solicitors, we take a comprehensive approach to Spine Injury Claims, ensuring that every aspect of your future needs is fully accounted for. Our priority is to secure maximum compensation so that you have the financial support, medical care, and assistance needed to move forward with your life. If you believe you are entitled to compensation, contact our expert team today for a free, no-obligation consultation.

It may be possible to arrange rehabilitation before the final settlement. We can raise your immediate needs with the responsible insurer and consider whether treatment can be funded under the Rehabilitation Code or through an interim payment. What can be arranged will depend on the circumstances of the claim and the insurer’s position.

Yes. A family member can make the initial enquiry where the injured person is in hospital, has communication difficulties or is otherwise unable to contact us personally. We will then establish how instructions can appropriately be taken. Where a person lacks capacity to conduct proceedings, a litigation friend may be required.

Claims following spinal injuries at work

Employers have legal duties to protect the health and safety of their employees so far as is reasonably practicable. The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 is the principal legislation governing occupational health and safety in Great Britain, supported by regulations applying to particular risks and working environments.

A spinal injury at work may result from a fall from height, defective machinery, an unsafe system of work, inadequate training, unsuitable lifting practices, a vehicle accident or a failure to control a known hazard.

The fact that an accident happened at work does not automatically mean that the employer was legally responsible. We will examine the working arrangements, relevant risk assessments, training records, maintenance information, witness evidence and accident documentation to determine whether the required standard was met.

People are sometimes concerned that making a claim could affect their employment. An employer should not dismiss or treat an employee unfairly simply because the employee has brought a legitimate personal injury claim. However, employment and redundancy issues depend on their particular facts, and separate employment advice may be required if difficulties arise.

A workplace injury claim is normally dealt with by the employer’s liability insurer. Bringing a claim does not usually mean that your individual manager or colleagues will have to pay the compensation personally.

Our expert solicitors deal with all types of Spinal Injury Claims

Different Types of Spinal Injuries

The severity and impact of a spinal injury depend on where the damage occurs along the spinal cord. The spinal cord acts as the body's communication highway, carrying messages between the brain and the rest of the body. When it is damaged, movement, sensation, and bodily functions can be significantly affected.

Paraplegia and Tetraplegia

Paraplegia occurs when the spinal cord is damaged in the lower back or thoracic region. This affects movement and sensation in the legs, pelvic region, and potentially the stomach muscles, often leading to loss of mobility and requiring long-term rehabilitation.

Tetraplegia (also known as Quadriplegia) results from damage to the cervical spine in the neck, affecting all four limbs as well as muscles in the chest and abdomen. This type of injury can severely impact breathing, circulation, and overall body function, sometimes requiring ventilator support.

Complete and Incomplete Spinal Injuries

Medical professionals classify spinal injuries as either complete or incomplete, depending on the extent of damage and the ability of nerve signals to pass through the affected area.

Complete Spinal Injury: A complete injury means there is no function below the site of damage, with both sides of the body being equally affected. There is no sensation or voluntary movement in the affected areas, making recovery extremely limited.

Incomplete Spinal Injury: With an incomplete injury, some function or sensation remains below the level of damage. This means the brain is still able to send some signals past the injured area, which may allow for partial movement, sensation, or function. Rehabilitation and treatment options may help improve mobility over time.

Other Types of Spinal Cord Damage

In addition to paraplegia and tetraplegia, spinal cord injuries can also be classified by the specific syndromes they cause, including:

Anterior Cord Syndrome: Damage to the front of the spinal cord, leading to loss of motor function but retaining some sensation.

Central Cord Syndrome: Affects the centre of the spinal cord, often leading to greater weakness in the arms than the legs.

Brown-Séquard Syndrome: Damage to one side of the spinal cord, causing movement loss on one side of the body and sensory loss on the other.

Cauda Equina Syndrome: A rare but serious condition affecting the nerves at the lower end of the spinal cord, leading to severe pain, weakness, and bladder or bowel dysfunction. This requires urgent medical attention.

Each type of spinal injury comes with unique challenges, but with the right medical care, rehabilitation, and financial support, individuals can adapt and rebuild their lives. If you have suffered a spinal injury due to someone else’s negligence, PSR Solicitors can help you pursue a spinal injury claim to secure the compensation and long-term care you need.
