Back Injury at Work Claim Experts
When you hurt your back at work, even minor injuries can have longer-term financial or health consequences that leave you out of pocket and reduce your quality of life.
You may miss out on earnings while you’re out of work or need to foot the bill for private medical treatment, rehabilitation, and counselling.
Your employer is obligated by law to ensure your safety in the workplace. If you injured your back in an accident at work that wasn’t your fault, you may be entitled to claim compensation.
Back injuries are one of the most common causes of back pain in adults and occur anywhere between the neck and the base of the spine. Back injuries vary from simple strains causing mild discomfort to more extensive ligament damage causing persistent or chronic pain.
Back injuries can affect all different types of working people from office staff to those who work on production lines, warehouses, construction sites, and health and social care settings.
Our specialist back injury at work solicitors are on hand to help you recover any damages owed to you to alleviate the financial impact of your injury and support you on the road to recovery.
Making a claim for compensation by yourself can be a complicated and time-consuming process. You may be unsure whether you’re even eligible to make a claim. A specialist compensation claims solicitor will advise on every aspect of claiming compensation for your workplace back injury, from identifying your rights, to establishing how much money you could receive, so you can concentrate on returning to normal life.
At PSR solicitors, we understand that recovering from a back injury can be an isolating experience. That’s why we’re with you every step of the way to make the process as straightforward as possible and ensure you receive what you are entitled to.
The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 are in place to ensure your safety at work by minimising the risk of any accidents leading to a potential injury.
If your employer fails to meet their responsibilities to your health and safety and you sustain a back injury while carrying out your job you may be able to make a claim against them.
In the UK, employers are legally obliged to effectively manage and minimise risks from manual handling tasks which they can do by following the guidance in the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.
This involves avoiding the use of hazardous manual handling operations. If such operations can’t be avoided, they need to fully assess them and carry out procedures to reduce the risk of injury as practicably reasonable.
If there is a risk of back injury, then adequate training and the correct protective equipment should be provided.
Your employer is responsible for your safety and if you sustained a back injury in an accident at work due to a safety oversight you may be entitled to compensation. Get in touch with PSR Solicitors and we can advise you on whether you have a case.
Fortunately, many back injuries do not result in permanent damage and once you fully recover, you can move forward and reestablish normality. However, the short and long-term impact of back injuries must not be underestimated. It’s important to get the help you need so the consequences of your back injury don’t derail your life.
For a start, the injury itself causes pain and suffering, but then there’s the added stress of the limitations to your day-to-day life. This may include the requirement of a wheelchair or home and vehicle adaptations. There could be the added expense of a full-time carer.
If you need to take a break in employment the loss of income could lead to long-term financial problems.
If you have suffered a back injury, we understand how debilitating it can be. You may require ongoing care assistance for your rehabilitation so you need to be able to access the best medical and financial support available so that you can recover as quickly as possible.
PSR solicitors will effectively handle your compensation claim to reduce the stress of the added financial burden.
I particularly liked an app that PSR give you access to, which lets you see how far along in the process you are, which is very helpful for the customer, during what can be a fraught experience.

A back injury may result from damage or trauma to the upper or lower back including nerve irritation, slipped discs or fractures to the spine vertebrae.
Sprains and strains
A sprain is caused when there is damage to the ligaments - the bands of tissue connecting bones and joints. A strain affects the muscles or tendons which can be overstretched and tear due to an accident or lifting a heavy object. Both sprains and strains often result in limited movement and considerable discomfort.
Slipped discs
Prolapsed and herniated discs occur when the soft cushion of tissue between the bones in the spine moves or ‘slips.’ This can cause extreme pain in the neck, lower back, or legs if it presses on the nerves.
Other symptoms include numbness or tingling in the shoulders, back, arms, hands, legs or feet, stiffness in the lower back, trouble bending or straightening, and muscle weakness.
Fractured vertebra.
Often the result of a fall, a fractured vertebra may result in spinal damage. This type of injury can lead to discomfort and stiffness in the lower back, muscle spasms, and long-term mobility issues.
Spinal injury
Some of the most serious injuries to the back involve a spinal cord injury which may have life-changing consequences for the injured person, such as paraplegia.
If you’ve had a spinal cord injury at work where someone else was accountable, speak to a serious injury specialist to find out if you’re eligible for help to pay for your rehabilitation.
There are many possible causes of a back injury in the workplace.
Overexertion
Workers who spend all day lifting, bending, twisting, and carrying objects are at risk of overexerting themselves. This is a typical hazard for people who have jobs in construction, manufacturing, and transportation.
Slips, trips, and falls
Many jobs require working up a height which can increase the risk of a fall, particularly if there are poor standards of health and safety in place.
Moving objects
Moving objects can pose a serious risk for workers. Workers may come into contact with moving objects in several different ways. A falling object could land on an unsuspecting person below or they may be struck by an object flying from a defective piece of machinery. Work vehicles such as forklift trucks can be hazardous and cause collisions.
Lifting of heavy or bulky objects
Employers should ensure their employees understand proper manual handling techniques. Workers can damage their backs if they do not lift with the correct form.
Repetitive strain
Some jobs require the worker to perform a series of repetitive tasks. This does not lead to an acute injury, but over time the stress and strain can lead to back pain. Sitting or standing in the same position all day can also put a strain on your back which over time leads to pain, stiffness, and inflammation.
If left untreated, back pain can negatively impact a person’s physical and mental health. Employees may even have to stop working. If you’re experiencing a back injury at work due to employer negligence, get in touch today to find out if you’re eligible for compensation. We’re highly experienced in handling back injury claims.
The first part of your compensation covers the pain and suffering caused by the accident itself. The compensation awarded also helps to pay for rehabilitation costs and time off work. This protects you against loss of earnings while you recover and enables you to access the very best in medical care, cover costs for any specialised equipment and pay for out-of-pocket expenses such as travel to and from medical appointments. The amount of compensation awarded depends on the severity of the injury.
In the UK there is a time limit for claiming compensation. Legal action must be underway within 3 years of your accident, but there are some exceptions.
If you are under 18 someone will have to claim on your behalf. There’s no time limit restriction before your 18th birthday and you can claim up until you turn 21.
By law, your employer or safety officer has a duty of care to protect you from accident or injury. If they neglect this duty, then you have the right to be compensated.
If you can prove the accident at work caused the injury and the accident was a direct result of employer negligence you may have a valid claim for compensation.
Many of our clients are hesitant to make a claim against their employer as they are anxious about losing their jobs. By law, you have the right to claim compensation against your employer and it’s illegal for them to dismiss you, try to make you feel uncomfortable in your job, or otherwise force you to voluntarily quit.
The first step is to talk to our specialist workplace back injury solicitors. We’ll gather the relevant information such as how, when and where the accident occurred and whether there are any witnesses to the event. Then we can start putting together a case for claiming compensation.
