Our client was a 51-year-old man from the Wrexham area. On 26 May 2025, he attended a large victory parade celebrating Liverpool Football Club’s 2024/25 Premier League title win, held on Water Street in Liverpool.
During the event, a motorist drove a vehicle into the crowd. The incident was widely reported in the news and resulted in numerous casualties. Our client was struck on the foot/ankle and was assisted by paramedics at the scene.
As a result of the collision, our client suffered:
Although the physical injury was relatively minor, the psychological effects were significant. Our client found it difficult to go out in public, particularly in situations involving crowds, which had a clear impact on day-to-day confidence and independence.
Our client attended one of our offices within two weeks of the incident to seek advice. We accepted instructions under a no-win, no-fee agreement, ensuring he could pursue a claim without financial risk.
Because this was a high-profile incident, an early priority was identifying the correct parties and insurer details. We contacted the Police to obtain the relevant information, then notified the insurer promptly and progressed the claim without delay. Throughout, we worked proactively with those involved to keep matters moving and to secure a clear outcome for our client.
The insurer did not provide a formal liability response, but confirmed their client was minded to settle and made a pre-medical offer of £5,000.
We explained that settling before medical evidence can be risky, particularly where psychological symptoms are involved. However, given the minor nature of the physical injury and the client’s wish to resolve matters quickly, we discussed the offer in detail and ensured he understood the position fully before making any decision.
After taking advice, our client chose to accept the offer. The compensation was then paid promptly, bringing the claim to a swift conclusion.
While the physical injury was minor, the settlement provided meaningful support and recognised the impact of the incident. The funds also gave our client the option to seek professional support for any ongoing psychological symptoms, should he wish to do so.
“This was a high-profile incident, and we were able to work closely with the Police and the insurer to secure a positive outcome for our client.”
Our client later emailed to express his thanks:
“Many, many thanks for your time and guidance in all of this. You've been so wonderful.”
