Airport Transfer Bus Accident Claim Settled for Over £15,000

Case overview

PSR Solicitors acted for a woman in her 60s from the Wrexham area in a personal injury claim following an accident on an airport transfer bus at Manchester Airport. By obtaining the right expert evidence and advising her not to accept an early low offer, PSR secured a settlement of just over £15,000.

Why the client chose PSR Solicitors

Our client approached PSR Solicitors shortly after the accident, looking for expert support with a personal injury claim and clear advice on the best way to move matters forward. She wanted a solicitor who could deal with the Defendant on her behalf, obtain the medical evidence needed to support the claim, and make sure the value of the case was properly assessed.

PSR’s personal injury team provided practical guidance from the outset, helping to make the process more manageable at a difficult time.

How the accident happened

On 7 July 2024, our client was travelling with her partner on an airport transfer bus taking passengers from the terminal to the car park at Manchester Airport.

During the journey, a verbal altercation took place involving another passenger. The bus driver then braked suddenly, causing passengers to be thrown forwards. Our client struck her head on the luggage rack before falling from her seat onto the bus steps.

Injuries suffered

As a result of the accident, our client sustained:

  • a 5cm laceration to her eyebrow, which healed with scarring
  • soft tissue injuries to her shoulder
  • soft tissue injuries to her back
  • ongoing headaches
  • psychological injury

She was treated by paramedics at the scene and later sought further medical advice from her GP, optician and local hospital in relation to her continuing symptoms.

The effect on the client

The injuries had both a physical and emotional impact. In particular, our client became very self-conscious about the scar to her eyebrow and grew her hair longer to cover it.

Alongside the pain and discomfort caused by her other injuries, the accident also affected her confidence and wellbeing.

How PSR handled the claim

PSR Solicitors were instructed just over a week after the accident. We took over the legal process at an early stage, advised on the best route for the claim, and dealt with the Defendant on our client’s behalf.

As the full extent of the injuries was not yet known, the claim was initially submitted through the small claims portal. Liability was admitted by the Defendant, allowing us to focus on obtaining the medical evidence needed to value the claim properly.

We first obtained medical evidence from a GP. Following that report, we arranged for a Plastic Surgeon to assess the facial scarring and provide an expert opinion on its long-term impact. This evidence was important in ensuring the claim was not undervalued.

How PSR increased the settlement from £5,000 to over £15,000

Before the Plastic Surgeon’s report had been obtained, the Defendant offered £5,000 to settle the claim on the basis that no further medical evidence would be pursued.

PSR Solicitors advised our client that this offer was too low and did not fairly reflect the nature of her injuries, particularly the lasting facial scar. We recommended continuing with the claim and obtaining the further expert evidence needed to support a more accurate valuation.

Once the medical evidence had been finalised, we continued negotiations on our client’s behalf and secured a settlement of just over £15,000.

This represented an increase of more than £10,000 on the Defendant’s original offer and ensured that the compensation more properly reflected the injuries our client had suffered and the impact the accident had on her life.

The benefit to the client

By seeking legal advice early and following PSR’s recommendation to obtain further expert evidence, our client achieved a significantly better outcome than the one initially offered.

The settlement provided fairer compensation for her injuries and gave her reassurance that the claim had been handled carefully and thoroughly.

Solicitor comment

“The client was very cooperative throughout the case, which meant we could work without delays. It was a pleasure to secure compensation for the client, as well as her partner, who also has a claim with us for the same accident.”
