When your case settles, whether through negotiation between the parties or in court, you will receive a sum of compensation (also known as General Damages) for the pain, suffering and loss of the amenities of life (i.e. the everyday effects on your lifestyle) which you have suffered as a result of your injuries.
The amount of this compensation is different for every case as people are affected in different ways even if they have the same injury. There is no exact way of calculating this figure; however solicitors, insurers and the courts use similar resources to help assess general damages.
The guidelines below provide an approximate bracket for some of the different types of injury based upon how serious the injury is and how long a person is likely to suffer for.
